Problem: Sub-standard one-coat plaster work
Reason: Inferior workmanship, inferior plaster sand, electrical point chasing, general plaster damage and repair by other trades
Result: Plaster repair marks that remain visible after the final coat of paint. The problem is exasperated the more sheen there is to the paint. Attempts by the painter or plasterer to repair the damaged and repaired areas using pollyfiller, plasterkey cement mix and any other mixture,only worsens the problem. Usually, the client specifies one coat of plaster to save costs, however he expects to get a two-coat plaster finish. This is almost impossible to achieve with today’s level of craftsmanship and with the speed of progress that programmes nowadays usually have to adhere to.
Solution: The only way to eradicate all the repairs and imperfections is to either apply a second plaster coat of rhinolite/cretestone or completely re-plaster the wall.
As the process of rhinolite is costly, Virtue Coatings, along with Plascon is now offering a more affordable solution – Terraco Skimcoat.
Terraco Skim is a ready-mixed filler for most interior building surfaces, including sand or cement render and building boards. An advanced skimming compound, it is used for the repair and touch up of both new and old surfaces, filling joints, substrate imperfections and hairline cracks. It creates a high quality, even surface for painting. This product allows us to re-skim the complete wall and give as smooth a finish as rhinolite. The ready-mixed product is applied with a trowel, skimming over the complete area, filling in all holes and imperfections. It is then rubbed down with a P80 grit sandpaper to give the smooth desired finish which is often sought-after.

Area of use:
Suitable for interior surfaces only. When dry, Terraco Skim coat bonds extremely well to cementitious materials, gypsum, building boards, plaster, wood, galvanised steel lathings and all common building surfaces. It can be used as a full skimcoat or for patching hairline cracks in walls, ceilings, repairing damage to plaster or paintwork, nail holes in woodwork, and making good around door architraves and along the top of skirting boards.
Application:
• Applied by trowel or spatula
• Spread rate: 0.5 – 1.5kg/m2
• Drying time: 3 – 4hrs
• Lightly sand and dust off surface prior to painting
